Sounds Like: Where my ears want to be

In this beautiful adventure that is me crossing over from a predominantly indie to a predominantly electro musical landscape, I have stumbled upon something incredible.

I think I'm in love with French fashion gurus and record label Kitsuné.

Over the last few weeks I have been delightedly persuing the bountiful Kitsuné collection and finding hidden treasures everywhere. It is as if I am eating several hundred jam doughnuts and whilst greatly appreciating the outer, sugar-coated dough of each one, I am also finding myself regularly indulging in a sweet strawberry fondant centre.

Anyway, for a lot of you, I imagine you already know what Kitsuné is, and your smirking a little on the inside at my naivety. But you may not know that the next Kitsuné Maison compilation is due tomorow (digital pre-release). Here's a nice teaser mixed by JBAG:

Sounds Like: Choppy goodness

Young French DJ/Producer Surkin has cooked up some cracking remixes in his time and I thought a revist was in order.

The artist of the first track I knew nothing about, but didn't initially expect great things from the name Teki Latex who appropriately seems to be some kind of bizarre French rapper. Interesting. And God knows who "Lio" is. Anyway, the track name Les Matins De Paris (my GCSE level French tells me that's The Mornings of Paris?) sounds delightful and Surkin steers it into a glorious choppy mix.

Track 2 is a bit calmer, VHS or Beta's Burn It All Down. Although a little disturbing on the lyric front you can't help but, er, sing along. Best not.

Sounds Like: A stuttering robot fed up of factory work

I have a tendency to skip over Daft Punk remixes - either with my eyes when I see them in my inbox, or with my feet when they lie down in front of me in the street. There's an obvious reason why - they're often rubbish. I think we can safely say that every interesting take on Around The World has been taken and every re-make of One More Time has been made. And rarely are these track harder, better, faster or stronger than the originals (oh gaaaaawd).

Still, despite that slating paragraph, I actually quite enjoyed this snippy, choppy vocal remix of Technologic. I'm sure there's plenty of similar remixes out there, but I wouldn't know, I've been skipping over them.

Joakim is another brilliant French producer/DJ bringing us some superb electro goodness. I love these two tracks. Teenage Kiss is a little more upbeat, you could dance to it if you wanted! I Wish You Were Gone is a bit more relaxing, the intros lovely.

I first heard about Minitel Rose when they popped up in Sundtrak's top 10 albums of 2008. They're something a bit different; slightly quirky vocals, whistling and a generally instrument-light sound that makes a quite refreshing break when you've been listening to track in your Soundcloud dropbox by a fella called 'DJ Dan' who, lets just say, enjoys bass.

The Manchester Warehouse Project is now in its third year. DJs from across the world head over to the city between September and January to populate a derelict urban location and blow the place apart (with music) - this year's location: under Piccadily Station.

So last night I found myself crammed amongst a small army of sweaty blokes as French legends Justice stomped around under Piccadily Station shaking the brickwork. They pulled a good set, I wouldn't say brilliant though. It was just so packed in there. You spent half the time shifting around as pricks in sunglasses placed an affectionate yet firm hand on your shoulder and with a "cheers mate", preceeded to stand on your toes. The crowd responded the most to Justice's own tracks. The people catching trains above must of wondered what the hell was happening when Genesis broke out of the speakers.

I was mightly impressed by Australian duo The Presets who have popped up on Cassette Culture before. I walked in as Talk Like That was starting and knew I was in for a good night.

I'm finding it hard to keep up to be honest. Having stumbled across Cut Copy a few months ago, I'm suddenly been bombarded with Australian electro-pop from all sides. However, far from sidestepping this onslaught of Aussie shaped meteors, I find myself bowled over by their charms and lie helplessly as they strike me, just simply embracing their glory. Yes. I like this stuff! I think I notice a handy theme arising for a themed mixtape =)

Today then, I bring you Ladyhawke who is a lady from Sydney who likes cats, videogames and, fortunately for us, making music. Things seem to have kicked off with her track "Paris is Burning" which has been remixed all over the place. So for download today is two of those remixes (one from fellow Aussies Cut Copy and another from French DJ/producer Alex Gopher) and a brilliant remix of "Back of the Van" from Van She Tech.
