So last night was my radio debut! I did a mini (18 min) mix for Jon Bevan's Gruvi show on Manchester Student Radio (FuseFM) last night. Its sort of a fusion between the stuff on his radio show (soul, jazz, funk) and my passion - electro music. You'll find the likes of Mr Scruff and Lemon Jelly here, along with some cracking remixes (the Nina Simone one blows me away everytime). Once again, its not the most professional of mixes from myself but hopefully you can overlook a few flaws and enjoy it!? The show will be uploaded here soon and you can download the mix itself here. Once again any feedback greatly appreciated.
Tracklist:
Stickly Kev - Solid Steel Sound Museum Pt1
Booker T and the MGs - Soul Limbo
Nina Simone - Sinnerman (Felix da Housecat's Heavenly House Mix)
Mr Scruff - Kalimba
Lemon Jelly - Nice Weather For Ducks
Lemon Jelly - Homage to Patagonia (CC edit)
Air - Alpha Beta Gaga (Edit 91)
DJ Food - Turtle Soup (Wagon Christ mix)
The Beatles - Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band (Streetlab remix CC edit)
Simon & Garfunkel - The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)
Tom Hardwicke - Minimix for Gruvi (360kbps)

For some reason this track reminds me of the Coburn track I posted the other day. I think its because they both have amazing breakdowns but separated by these lengthy, choppy build up sections, where a lot of people will just be hanging around flossing their teeth and what not. Once again - tip for impatient people - skip to 1.34.

Following the other day's informative Duran Duran post I'm going to say hardly anything today. Except - impatient people skip to 1.18 on this (it's worth it!):

Please forgive me, but I'm going to try and impart some knowledge about this track rather than just get really enthusiastic about it and throw it at you - which is what usually happens here.
In July 2003, Erol Alkan made his first ever mix CD, called it One Louder and presented it front cover style to readers of Muzik. Nestled in at spot number 3, was this track: Duran Duran track - Girls on Film - the night version. Apparently, Erol was inundated with messages from readers wanting to know what this night version lark was, many assuming it was his own remix. But no! This was orignial Duran Duran who often remixed their own tracks for the dance floor, and called them Night Versions (there's a compilation of them all called Night Versions: The Essential Duran Duran).
And! (yes there's more)Duran Duran's Night Versions are the inspiration behind the title of Soulwax's Nite Versions.
Brilliant! You'll have to excuse me - I'm on a bit of a learning curve. Enjoy the hell out of this though please:

I played at a party in London last week and flipped on a bit of Fatboy Slim which I haven't done in a while. These tunes always go down well and they appeal to all kinds of crowds aswell. First up Gangster Tripping, a track with a lovely tropical feel. And then FB's greatest remixes Brimful of Asha and Renegade Master. True classics.

Here's a beautiful track from last year. The thing that struck me about this track is that it really is like a journey. The dynamics are fanstatic; there are dips in volume, cresendos and fades all over the place. Its quite quirky but nice and soft for a Sunday morning. I think its best listened to first with the video which features some kind of bird with human legs going for a wander.

This is a Stanton Warriors remix of We Interrupt This Programme, a track Coburn released in 2005. It all starts off nice and blurpy with some choppy vocals and we're all happy wandering along thinking "Where is this going?" Well, lets just say you will be rewarded. If you're not known for your patience you may want to skip to 1:13.

Some cracking classics remixed by Soulwax/2ManyDJs for you. This Rebel Rebel remix is fantastic. You could nicely drop this into the middle of a set starting with - "I am a DJ, I am what I play" - then gradually breaking into the signature guitar twangs of the original. Phoar!
And! Bonus - here's the 2ManyDJs remix of dEUS Everybody's Weird.

We met Ancient Greece obsessed Marina and the Diamonds previously on Cassette Culture here, and a grand remix of Obsessions popped up the other day from Pinkstallone. Nice and chilled out.

I spent 9 hours flipping out stomping tunes at a party last night and when I finally got home this afternoon and checked my e-mails, I found that the Billion Dollar DJs had sent over a new track smothered with pounding bassline variations! So pretty bad timing but I think the fact that this new track of theirs (called Sugoi!) somehow permeated my throbbing head and actually got a pleasant reaction, is testimony to how good it is. I could of done with this tune in my set last night.
There's quite a bit of Billion Dollar DJs remixes already up on Cassette Culture - well worth a listen - see here.
