Van She are re-releasing "Kelly" with various remixes - Breakbot, Cut Copy, Fred Falke and Alan Braxe to name a few. The most distinctive of the lot is Shinichi Osawa's take. Great track:

Now I love Daft Punk. I don't like having favourites but these guys are pushing first place on my imaginary wall chart. If there was a wall chart about electronic music artists, Daft Punk would be bold, italicised and bright blue.
Anyway, the point is, in 2006 Daft Punk made a film - Electroma. I only found out it existed a few days ago and watched it for the first time last night... I have very mixed feelings. The cinematography was incredible: beautiful landscapes, nifty camera angles and throughout a kind of elegance that was quite "calming" as my housemate described it. Ironically - nothing like a Daft Punk set then.
Yet the pace was slow slow slow. Very slow. This is not an accessible film, its about as experimental as you can get. There is no diaglogue at all and the plot seems to stumble between moderate comedy to well no plot really for a while whilst the two main characters take a good half or so walk through the desert.
So in essence, it was a hugely paradoxical experience. Partly I was full of appreciation for the camera work, the fantastic scenery and some great songs (no Daft Punk though), but it was far too slow-paced. No-one wants to sit and watch two robots walking for half an hour. Thats the kind of thing you project on a wall in a bar and people go "Oh how cool is that", then have a drink, talk with friends then look back and say "Ha they're still going. Crazy robots".
I'll be interested to see Interstella 5555, a film which Daft Punk wrote the script for and provided the soundtrack in the form of their album Discovery.
Anyway, I need to share this scene with you from Electroma because its just beautiful (have an open mind!):

So with less than a week till Halloween, lets get in the mood eh! Billion Dollar DJs sent me their Halloween mixtape a couple of days ago. Its brilliant! Just don't listen in the dark. Although you might not see much you know on the tracklist there are some recognisables in there - Rockwell - Somebody's Watching for instance. It doesn't matter anyhow, this listen's like bobbing for apples, sinking your teeth into a crispy fresh one and rising from the bowl of off-kilter water to the cheers and admiration of your peers.
As always with Billion Dollar DJs, well crafted, original and worthy of some hefty applause.
Chuckii Booker feat John 'Crypt Keeper' Kassir - The Crypt Jam
Goblin - Tenebre (Main Title)
John Carpenter - The End (Disco Version)
Ministry - Everyday Is Halloween
SSQ - Tonight (We'll Make Love Until We Die)
The Bollock Brothers - Horror Movies
Arch Oboler - Drop Dead Interlude
Mark Ayres - Nightmare On Elm Street Theme
Rockwell - Somebody's Watching
Marketts - Out Of Limits
Hashim - Al Naafyish (The Soul)
Pulsailama - Devil Lives In My Husbands Body
Honeymoon Killers - Wait And See
Flirts - Teenage Werewolf
Metronomy - Trick Or Treats
The Immortals - Ultimate Warlord (Remix)
The J Geils Band - Fright Night
Bush Tetras - Too Many Creeps
Severed Heads - Dead Eyes Opened
France Gall - Frankenstein

I posted about a great South Central remix of The Whip's Trash back in August. Yesterday, after bumbling around on thier Myspace, I came across this track, 'Crystaling' which blew me away.

No Amazon, I'm not going to pay you £17.49 for an import copy of Empire of the Sun's album (or! as I've just discovered, £32.99 on CD-WoW). For now I am quite happy to listen to the songs on their myspace and these remixes I bring to you today (if you want a full album review, pop over to Sundtrak where Jon has checked it all out in detail)
I've posted about Empire of the Sun before - a project of Nick Littlemore from Pnau and Luke Steele from the Sleepy Jackson.
And so of course, we have the usual round of Australians remixing Australians. Sam La More features again, as does Van She Tech and uh...Ted and Francis - whoever they are.

As I dig deeper into the past of the current Australian electro-pop explosion (and it is quite a brilliant explosion, an explosion of the positive kind, such as one used to visually enhance a film or access a new mineral resource), I find more and more that all these guys seem to know each other. Its as if they all went to the same Australian school of electro-pop. So find of the day is Teenager, which is the old duet band of Nick Littlemore (currently band member of PNAU and more recent project Empire of the Sun) and Pip Brown (aka Ladyhawke). We've already seen the stunning stuff they're producing these days so its nice to go back to their roots. I've only been able to get hold of the tracks on their myspace, their album is proving extemely elusive so this is a bit of a snapshot.
The stand-out track is "Alone Again" which is just what a duet should be. Bloke sings. Girl sings. And eveythings beautiful.
"West" is a bass driven track featuring only Littlemore's vocals. Its all quite unpolished stuff but a good listen all the same.

Here's a quick one to tide you over till tomorow. I don't know where I found this but its dam good stuff - a Cut Copy mix for Radio One in April, 2005. Somehow they've managed to cram Fleetwood Mac and the Pixies into what is essentially an electro mix. Its quite a mellow one, listen in the afternoon. Or whilst making an omlette as I did.

A month or two ago, back in the day when I was still finding my feet as a music blogger (I still am), I did a guest post for Jon over at Sundtrak. Sundtrak is a far more cutting-edge blog than my own, I often find great stuff there before it appears anywhere else and the taste is very similar to that of Cassette Culture - I suggest you check it out! Anyway, Jon's returned the favour with a guest post about some of his favourite tracks from 2008. Pay attention now.
-------------------------------
Tom was good enough to guest post on my blog so I thought it proper to return the favor. In the theme of introducing our own blogs on each other's blogs, I decided to make a post that I won't even be posting on my own blog until New Years Eve. Some tracks that might be part of my "Hello 2009, Goodbye 2008 Top 10 List!" It might actually be top 20 this time, and well, hopefully these tracks stick for the next few months. What better way to represent Sundtrak?
To the music! I couldn't get this song out of my head the first time I heard it, I also couldn't stop laughing. None other than Moulinex and his remix of Ben Mono's Jesus Was A B-Boy. This should rightfully get you to listen to more Moulinex stuff.
Second, the Soulwax remix of MGMT which needs no introduction.
And lastly, the Van She Tech remix of Walter Meego. Tom has posted a bunch of Van She remixes already, thought I'd add to the list. Very bubbly track, what electro should be all about.

The Count & Siden - Beeper
Amazingly, within the space of a week, we've also been blessed by a visit from the Annie Mac Presents tour featuring none other than Fake Blood, who I posted about sometime last week for the Little Boots remix. A quick search on Hype Machine reveals coincidently that Fake Blood has remixed Beeper. So here's Beeper again, Fake Blood remix:

I'm a big fan of MGMT, they've brought psychadelic electro music up to the frontline, you might even say mainstream. And that's always good because it means you might hear it somewhere like the gym, which makes a welcome break from Justin Timberlake and chums. Most importantly though, when I saw them live in Cardiff last year, they created such a stunning mesh of sounds that I think I would have fallen over had I not been crammed in amongst wide-eyed admirers.
Anyway, that was all a long time ago, but the other day, this arrived and the world can go mental again.

So this remix appeared in my inbox the other day from Cryptonites - who, from the lack of information about them on the Internet, appear to want to remain quite anonymous. The Swiss pair remixed this track in April for Manchester/London band Futurecop!'s EP but it was pulled from the final release. Its a great track have a mosey:

We met Miami Horror recently - checkout this remix of Pnau's track "Embrace" with Fred Falke. MH is an Australian DJ/Producer from Melbourne who has recently conjured up a host of remixes leading up to the release new album Bravado which should be along shortly. Here's a cheeky preview track from Bravado and a couple of my favourite MH remixes.

I've come to realise as I listen to more and more electro music that you need to have a balance of upbeat songs and more chilled out stuff. Too many beats = big headache. This is all building up to Cassette Culture's next mixtape which is going to be a more chilled out, spacey tape. For now, be content with this:
