Little Boots

And I think there'll be plenty more where this came from in a short jiffy.

Santogold. Watching Tele.

Here's some more Santogold for you. This is a track taken from Diplo's "Top Ranking" mixtape which is also worth checking out.

Le Corps Mince De Francois

This track was just asking to be remixed. "Bitch of the Bitches" by Le Corps Mince De Francois is a tropical coconut rave tune finely pumped full of dancefloor juice by Russ Chimes.

Booker T and the M.G.s

Right lets get mellow. This one's a 1960's track which you'll probably recognise. I'm digging back into the old tunes for this to tide me over while I struggle to grab bits of wireless connection in my new house. Cheers Sean for reminding me of this one.

Midnight Juggernauts

I knew as soon as this started pumping out my headphones that I was going to love it. Another classic Cut Copy remix of Midnight Juggernauts (how good was that one of Dystopia??).

Midnight Juggernauts - 45 and Rising (Cut Copy remix)

Unfortunately I also saw this the other day which is, quite frankly, horrible. Cut Copy and Black Kids covering Blondie. Live. Ek.

Fenech-Soler
I can't remember how it happened but a few months ago I stumbled into Fenech Soler and popped them in my "bands to look at later" folder. Fortunately, I did look at them later and was mightily impressed. I got in touch with Ben Duffy from the band who kindly agreed to answer a few questions. First though Ben has sent dark electro track "Black Keys" for you to download and their soon-to-be-single "The Cult of Romance" to preview. Ben also tells me there's a remix of "The Cult of Romance" in the pipeline courtesy of Alan Braxe, who has previosuly worked alongside Fred Falke to remix the likes of Goldfrapp, Röyksopp and Justice.

Fenech Soler - Black Keys

Fenech-Soler - Cult of Romance

So its all looking rather grand. Here's what Ben had to say:

Cassette Culture: Hi Ben, how are you today?

Ben Duffy: I'm very well thank you...

CC: Would you like to introduce us to Fenech-Soler?

BD: Of course... We are a band from a small place called Oundle in Northamptonshire but have recently moved to London. I never like to pigeonhole us but we have been described as a synth-pop band with an 80's feel... whatever that is.

There is myself, my brother Ross Duffy, Dan Francis and Andrew Lindsey. We have been together playing live as the four of us for about 4 months.

CC: And what are you up to at the moment? Touring/recording?

BD: Well, we have really just been recording in our studio at home for the last few months with the odd few shows in London. We are really hoping to be getting out on the road very soon though. After playing in London a lot this summer we have a real desire to get up north so hopefully we can get as far as Scotland!

CC: Who are are you listening to these days? Got your eye on any up-and-coming talent?

BD: Well to be honest we constantly listen to a whole load of stuff like Bowie, Talking Heads, Frankie Goes to Hollywood... We have a real passion for electronic music. We are massively into the Australian scene with bands like The Presets ect... and also producers such as DIM, Gui Barrato, Joakim. The list could be endless!

CC: What do you like to do that's non-musical?

BD: Not much to be honest! If we aren’t recording/playing/djing then we are usually out seeing bands or at various London clubs. Although i have to say i do have a small obsession with the Pesterella burger at Gourmet Burger Kitchen at the moment. Music and GBK all the way.

CC: Have you been to any festivals this summer?

BD: Yeah, we went to the best festival all of us have ever been to this summer... It was the Secret Garden Party. We were actually playing in the dance tent but we just thought the whole thing was so well put together and the environment was insane. I hope it stays a secret!

CC: What are your views on how the Internet is changing the way music is discovered and distributed? Good thing/bad thing?

BD: I think good thing... It's difficult as it has become very hard to raise your head musically above the crowd. There is so much talent out there and not enough gets the attention it deserves. I mean I couldn’t even begin to think how to promote or keep a fan base with out the world wide web!

It's a hard time to gain backing from labels and industry as no one is buying albums anymore so the whole thing is on it's head at the moment. All of this said, if it's good then it should stand out.

CC: Where would you like to see Fenech-Soler in a years time?

BD: I think we constantly set our sights on the immediate next thing... for us it's about planning the rest of this year and certainly 2009 with a view to spending next summer in some whirl wind of festivals!

And then, in true Cassette Culture style, Ben whipped us up a quick 6-track mixtape. Here it is, "Fenech-Soler vs Gourmet Burger Kitchen"

Tracklist:
1. Poni Hoax - Hypercommunication (Joakim Remix)
2. Friendly Fires - Lovesick
3. Michael Jackson - PYT
4. D.I.M - Is You
5. Frankie Goes to Hollywood - Relax
6. Mutemath - Reset

Half In Love With Elizabeth single cover
Spanish band Delorean seem to have had more success (at least Internationally) with their remixes then their own songs. In what seems like a desperate bid for exposure by clinging to the coattails of a semi-successful indie band, Delorean have a disturbingly polluted profile page with the phrase "new Mystery Jets remix" tattooed all over the place. As it happens, I don't have a problem with that at all because their own tracks are actually quite good. Listen to "As Time Breaks Off" for example.

Anyway, they're sending us out of space with this remix. The Mystery Jets track "Half In Love With Elizabeth" is transformed into a blurry midnight drives down an ambiently lit motorway. Cast your eyes yonder:

Hello sorry about that short break from Cassette Culture that saw a few hasty scheduled posts popping up, a quick apology and then nothingness for several days. Fear not, I'm back and there's now heaps of music lying around everywhere waiting to be discovered.

Thing is, I'm pretty tired, so until normal service resumes fully tomorrow and I can do the blog justice, here's another brilliant mash-up from Immuizkation who has actually been working hard and not wandering off on holiday somewhere.

Oh and if anyone's interested, Berlin is an absolutely fantastic city. Its full of these crazy hidden clubs and bars, creepy alleyways and derelict warehouses where you're bound to find a party of some kind. Only in Berlin could you be walking along an apparently normal street only to suddenly hear pounding beats from a grid in the pavement or an air conditioning vent in a wall. I might put up a few photos when I've got then developed.

In the meantime here's Immuzikation's mash-up of Santogold and Treasure Fingers:

Hullo this is just a quick note for regular readers - Cassette Culture won't be updated for about a week because I'm away. If your in desperate need of a music hit, go here. I'll be back soon!

Pnau
Gah-ha! I've just had one of those moments where you hear a track for the first time and. it. just. clicks. When it happens you know you've hit gold. But you don't really know what sound to make. Or at least its difficult to write that sound down. Gah-ha will have to do.

The culprit of the above delight was a track called "Embrace" by Australian electro artists Pnau. While Pnau tinker around in the background with ambient electro sounds, label-buddy Ladyhawke pops in to provide vocals. I have to admit, after the initial excitement, it starts to lop about towards the end... (I'm actually listening to it now, still for the first time - I type fast). Still its definitely worth a listen!

Oh-e-yeah and Fred Falke & Miami Horror have remixed it. Cheers!

And, I thought I'd mention, Pnau are starting to grow on me like a small apple tree sending out its first tentative roots into a rigid mass of complexly structured soil. Maybe they're growing on you too? Here's a track to, er, fertilise your minds...(I don't think I'll be using this metaphor again).

M.I.A.

Here's someM.I.A. (which, Wikipedia informs me, stands for both Missing In Action and Missing In Acton)for you. I'm not going to mess around with wishy-washy genres to try and describe her but most of these are electro remixes anyway so give them a try if that's your thing.

There's been some brilliant remixes of "Bucky Done Gun" and I couldn't choose a single favourite so here's a couple of the best:

"Paper Planes" dropped over a catchy twangy guitar riff:

Another crazy Van She party that makes me wish I lived down under

Klaxon's Gravity's Rainbow was probably one of the first tracks I heard when I was first getting into electronic music. So to find this old gem of a Van She Tech remix was extra-special. Enjoy responsibly.

Berlin

Right I'm off to Berlin tomorow for a week so I've been scraping together some posts which I hope (fingers crossed) Blogger will post automatically over the next week. It could well be a disaster and I'll come back next Wednesday and find that no one reads this thing anymore because there's writing all over the screen and images sticking out of the walls.

Here's something nice to listen to in the meantime because I know you're all jealous:
